Old Men with no e-mail addresses
By
James Bredin
Very few men I worked with used the key board way back then,
Few typewriters available so we wrote with ball point pen,
We were ready to retire when the computers arrived,
We had waited long enough and didn’t feel one bit deprived.
But some of us are evasive when asked for an e-mail address,
Some never learned the keyboard and are too proud to confess,
My wife has an e-mail address some say as though in self defense,
Therefore why should I bother; as though this too makes sense.
We gather at pensioners meetings and funerals now,
Amid the hearing aids and spectacles but no e-mails allowed,
Where going to a web page may be a problem over our heads,
That plus some of us have to remember to take our meds.
